Tourist In Cologne, pt. I

This weekend CBYX participants from Saarbrucken made it up to Cologne to see the city.  It was a good opportunity to see some parts of the city I hadn't yet made time for.
Love Locks on Rhine Bridge
Stop 1 was the Love Lock walk across the Rhine.  Like many other cities in Europe, Cologne has a bridge filled with locks put up by couples. The density and variety of locks is actually very pretty and impressive.  In other cities, the weight of the locks causes concerns for safety and the locks are cut off.  Cologne, however, has done a study and shown that the added weight has no impact on the bridge.

View from the Triangle Tower
The Triangle Tower offers a 360 degree view of Cologne for 3 Euro.  The drawings on the windows made it possible to find landmarks and pointed out new places to visit in the future. I enjoyed the view from the 29th floor and thought that it has since helped me get oriented within the city.

There is always a barge on the Rhine.  One passed while I was on the bridge and it appeared to go 30+ ft  below the waterline.

A photo note of places to visit in the future.
From the Triangle Tower we walked North to the Botanical Gardens via The Rhine Park.  The park was hosting a Techno music festival in the first section and Saturday pick-up soccer games in the second.  It was a pretty walk lined with Cottonwood trees.
Miniature Golf
Beneath the bridge they had built a really cool play area. It had miniature golf, indoor-ish soccer, basket ball, and a skate park.
Kids at Play
The Botanical Gardens in Cologne were very pretty and free to the public.  We had a leisurely stroll and then went to a friends house to make dinner.
